Mosquito's eggs are in freshwater systems, eggs are usually in a flat row on the surface of the water that can have up to 300 eggs. Mosquito's begin their life as a larvae in the water and leave the water ecosystem after 2 weeks. The larvae main food source include mainly plant matter such as algae, microorganisms, and fungi.
The pupa of a mosquito continues to live in the aquatic system for 4 days, and tends to stay neat the surface. This phase of life for the mosquito includes the metamorphic change of the mosquito into the adult form.
Adult mosquito's are interesting in that only the female mosquito preys for blood. Male mosquito's on the other hand typically feed on nectar from flowers.
Female mosquito's mainly prey on livestock animals and some bird species. While they are nuisance to humans it is not their main diet.
